VPI Experience Practical Training Program

About the program

The Practical Training Program is designed for veterinarians or equine therapists seeking advanced clinical experience in equine physiotherapy and rehabilitation. It may be particularly relevant for veterinarians pursuing residency or credentialing pathways in veterinary sports medicine and rehabilitation who are required to complete supervised clinical training with a Diplomate.

The program provides the opportunity to follow the clinical practice of Dr. Solange Mikail (DACVSMR), gaining direct exposure to the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of equine patients in a specialized clinical setting.

The program includes five theoretical and practical classes, on-site accommodation, and participation in the clinical routine at Vet Physio Institute, providing an immersive experience in equine physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Daily routine

Our clinical routine runs six days a week, and participants will have one day off each week.

Our regular schedule is generally from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although this may vary depending on the number of patients under our care or the occurrence of emergencies.

Our staff arrives from 7:00 a.m. to feed the animals and provide their first daily care. Physiotherapy sessions generally begin after the horses have been fed.

During the program, you will closely follow physiotherapy treatments and rehabilitation exercises performed by our team. You will have the opportunity to observe how we manage some of the most common conditions encountered in our practice, become familiar with the protocols we use, and understand the clinical strategies we apply to achieve successful outcomes.

Depending on the activities scheduled for the day and your level of experience, you may also have the opportunity to participate in selected practical activities, always under supervision.

Educational resources

Participants have access to our anatomy room, equipped with skeletons and educational materials for study and practical activities, including:

  • Identification of the main bones and anatomical structures;
  • Identification and delimitation of the main joint recesses;
  • Study of anatomical landmarks;
  • Access to our library to consult or borrow books.

Accommodation

Our guest houses are located within a gated residential community with controlled access, security, parking, and Wi-Fi.

Participants stay in a comfortable house with private bedrooms and bathrooms, a living room with television and dining area, as well as a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, freezer, stove, microwave, and/or small electric oven.

The location is close to the city center and supermarkets, providing easy access to everyday essentials.

Bed linen, pillows, blankets, and towels are provided, so there is no need to bring your own.
